Turnkey 150 kV high-voltage three-core XLPE submarine and land cable system with integrated fibre optics, total length approximately 23 km, interconnecting Kyllini and Zakynthos.
Hellenic Cables, the cables segment of Cenergy Holdings, was commissioned by Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) to deliver a turnkey 150 kV AC electrical interconnection between Kyllini on the Greek mainland and the island of Zakynthos, replacing an aging link from the early 1980s. The scope covered the engineering and design, manufacture and supply of a new three-core XLPE high‑voltage cable system with integrated fibre optics, including both submarine and land sections with a total system length of about 23 km and a transmission capacity of around 200 MVA. The contract also included associated accessories, civil works for installing the land cables, laying and protection of the submarine cable, transitions between land and submarine sections, all jointing and terminations at IPTO’s substations, as well as testing and commissioning. The cables were produced at Hellenic Cables’ submarine cable plant in Corinth and land cable plant in Thiva, and the project was completed and put into operation in summer 2023 to secure the power supply of Zakynthos and the wider Ionian Islands.
