Following successful energisation on 28 July 2023, IPTO placed the upgraded Zakynthos–Kyllini 150 kV submarine interconnection into operational service, with media and industry reports in early August confirming the interconnector had begun operation. The new cable system, delivered in under a year by Hellenic Cables as main EPCI contractor, fully replaced the obsolete 1980s link and now provides secure, reliable transmission capacity for Zakynthos and the wider Ionian Islands.
