Ostwind 2 export cable system: 220 kV HVAC XLPE; NKT to supply ~270 km offshore export cable and ~8 km onshore cable (three lots for entire project).
NKT was awarded a contract by 50Hertz to supply the Ostwind 2 offshore grid connection export cable system in Germany. The scope comprised manufacture and supply of approximately 270 km of 220 kV high-voltage AC XLPE offshore export cable and approximately 8 km of 220 kV high-voltage AC XLPE onshore cable to connect the Arcadis Ost 1 and Baltic Eagle offshore wind farms to the onshore substation at Lubmin. NKT stated the cable delivery covered three lots constituting the entire project and that manufacturing would take place at its high-voltage cable plants in Karlskrona, Sweden, and Cologne, Germany, with production scheduled to start in 2020. The overall project was executed in a consortium with Boskalis Subsea Cables & Flexibles responsible for offshore installation.
