In 1997 the Middelgrunden Cooperative was formed as a citizens’ cooperative to act as co-owner of the Middelgrunden offshore wind project, which includes the 3.5km, 30kV subsea cable linking the turbines to the Amager power plant in Copenhagen. The cooperative structure enabled thousands of local shareholders to participate alongside the municipal utility in ownership of the wind farm and its grid connection assets.
