In 1997, the Danish Energy Agency awarded a grant of 5.1 million DKK (about 680,000 EUR) to the Middelgrunden project to fund pre-investigations, including technical and environmental studies of offshore wind power at the Middelgrunden site near Copenhagen and analyses of the organisational and economic aspects of the cooperatively owned part of the project, thereby supporting early development work for the wind farm and its 30 kV grid connection to Amagerværket.
