On 19 March 2018, IPTO inaugurated Phase A of the Cyclades Interconnection, under which Syros and Paros were linked to the mainland grid by a high‑voltage submarine cable and, via Paros, the islands of Antiparos, Naxos, Koufonissi, Schinoussa, Irakleia, Ios, Sikinos and Folegandros were supplied with electricity from the Mainland Power Transmission System, bringing the Koufonisi–Schinoussa link into service within the interconnected network.
