At the beginning of 2018, Phase A of the Cyclades Interconnection became fully operational, meaning the new transmission links via Syros and Paros were in commercial service and supplying downstream islands including Naxos, Koufonissi and Schinoussa with power from the Mainland Power Transmission System, so the Koufonisi–Schinoussa submarine link was operating as part of the fully commissioned Small Cyclades network.
