Kentish Flats Extension 33 kV HVAC export cable system with two parallel cables over a 9.8 km route (7.8 km subsea, 2.0 km onshore) connecting the extension array in the Thames Estuary to landfall at Hampton Pier and onward to Red House Farm substation.
Nexans, through its Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW) business, supplied approximately 30 km of 33 kV medium-voltage AC subsea power cables for Vattenfall’s Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm Extension. This supply covered both the inter-array cables between the 15 turbines and the subsea export cables that bring power to shore near Hampton Pier, west of Herne Bay. Within this total, about 15.6 km of cable formed the two parallel 33 kV export circuits that constitute the offshore section of the Kentish Flats Extension grid connection. The cables were designed and manufactured for subsea burial along the offshore export corridor in the Thames Estuary, enabling transmission of the 49.5 MW extension’s output into the existing onshore route to Red House Farm substation for connection to the UK grid.
