Gallagher Group was subcontracted by German ground engineering company Zublin to carry out groundworks for the ElecLink UK HVDC converter station at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone. Working under Zublin’s Lot 2 piling and civil works package, Gallagher imported approximately 25,000 m3 of primary limestone fill for piling platforms, removed around 17,000 m3 of piling arisings, constructed 200 m of reinforced concrete retaining walls and 200 m of gabion walls, and installed about 2 km of drainage and associated works. The company also supplied 17,000 m3 of concrete from its Ashford plant, delivering these civils within the operational and security constraints of the Channel Tunnel site.
