On 3 January 2011, Ministerial Decision No. FA/R 3.2/57/3 formally classified the EU‑co‑financed project "Interconnection of Cyclades Islands with the National Mainland Interconnected Transmission System – Phases A, B and C" as a project of general importance for the economy of Greece. This umbrella decision covered Phase A sub‑projects such as the 150 kV Syros–Mykonos radial submarine cable and associated GIS substations, underscoring their national significance for securing long‑term, reliable and economical electricity supply to the Cyclades.
