Supply of about 125 km of 220 kV AC high-voltage submarine export cables, configured as two approximately 61 km cables between the Borssele Alpha offshore substation and the onshore Borssele substation via the Western Scheldt estuary.
On 8 November 2016, TenneT awarded NKT Cables, working in consortium with Boskalis subsidiary VBMS, the construction-phase contract to deliver the export cable systems for the 700 MW Borssele Alpha offshore grid connection. NKT’s scope covers the manufacture and supply of about 125 km of 220 kV AC high-voltage submarine cables, configured as two approximately 61 km export circuits routed via the Western Scheldt estuary from the Borssele Alpha offshore high-voltage substation to landfall near the existing Borssele high-voltage substation in Zeeland. The cables are manufactured at NKT’s Cologne facility and delivered ready for offshore installation in 2018–2019. In addition to manufacturing, NKT participates in the consortium’s delivery and installation of the export cable systems, while VBMS/Boskalis performs the specialist cable-lay and seabed preparation activities. NKT’s share of the Borssele Alpha contract is valued at about EUR 77 million.
