On 8 November 2016, Dutch TSO TenneT awarded a consortium of NKT Cables and Boskalis subsidiary VBMS the contract to deliver and install the export cable systems for the 700 MW Borssele Alpha offshore grid connection. The scope covers supply of about 125 km of 220 kV AC high‑voltage submarine cables, configured as two approximately 61 km export cables routed via the Western Scheldt estuary to landfall near the existing high‑voltage substation at Borssele in Zeeland. NKT’s share of the contract is valued at around EUR 77 million and Boskalis’ at about EUR 70 million, with cables manufactured in Cologne and delivered ready for offshore installation planned for 2018–2019.
