Windpowernl reports that TenneT's 700 MW Borssele Alpha offshore grid connection obtained DNV GL certification and is now ready for operation as of 6 September 2019, meaning the offshore grid connection system is completed and able to receive power from Borssele I & II.
Boskalis' 2018 CSR report states that in 2018 the company began work on TenneT's Borssele Alpha project export cable. Together with Boskalis' 2016 contract press release describing pre-sweeping and dredging in the cable route, this indicates offshore site preparation (including pre-sweeping and route preparation) started during 2018.
On 1 November 2017, VBMS, a subsidiary of Boskalis, announced it had been awarded by TenneT, in consortium with NKT Cables, an offshore cable installation contract that includes laying two 67 km export cables connecting the Borssele offshore wind farms to TenneT’s onshore grid and installing a 7 km interconnector cable between the Borssele Alpha and Borssele Beta offshore substations, expanding the transmission infrastructure associated with the Borssele Alpha connection.
On 8 November 2016, Dutch TSO TenneT awarded a consortium of NKT Cables and Boskalis subsidiary VBMS the contract to deliver and install the export cable systems for the 700 MW Borssele Alpha offshore grid connection. The scope covers supply of about 125 km of 220 kV AC high‑voltage submarine cables, configured as two approximately 61 km export cables routed via the Western Scheldt estuary to landfall near the existing high‑voltage substation at Borssele in Zeeland. NKT’s share of the contract is valued at around EUR 77 million and Boskalis’ at about EUR 70 million, with cables manufactured in Cologne and delivered ready for offshore installation planned for 2018–2019.
