In December 2019, REN and E-REDES completed the testing, commissioning and energisation of the WindFloat Atlantic export grid connection, enabling the floating wind farm to be connected to the Portuguese electricity network. This phase involved coordinated construction works, implementation of communication and pioneering electrical protection systems, electrical and fibre optic testing, and execution of commissioning and energisation protocols so that electricity could be supplied through the REN-installed submarine export cable coming ashore at Viana do Castelo into the national grid.
