Trenching services for the Western HVDC Link 600 kV bipole subsea cables over more than 560 km of cable route in the Irish Sea, including mechanical ploughing and jet trenching up to 165 m water depth.
DeepOcean UK was contracted by Prysmian Group to provide subsea trenching services for the Western HVDC Link. The scope covers pre-lay survey and grapnel runs, subsea trenching and post-trench survey of more than 560 km of HVDC cable along the interconnector route in water depths up to 165 m in the Irish Sea. DeepOcean deploys its PCP2 power cable plough from the chartered vessel Go Pegasus to mechanically trench approximately 425 km of cable, complemented by jet trenching of around 135 km from a dedicated trenching support vessel. Offshore trenching campaigns commenced in the second half of 2014 and continued through 2015 and 2016, providing burial and protection of the Western Link submarine cables as part of the project’s construction phase.
