Prysmian Group was awarded the cable scope for the Western HVDC Link as part of a turnkey consortium with Siemens. Prysmian announced a contract for design, manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning of the subsea/land HVDC cable system, reporting a package value of about €800 million (the consortium contract was cited at ~€1.1 billion by the awarder). Prysmian stated its cable-laying vessel Giulio Verne would perform offshore installation. The contract covered the MI/PPL-insulated 600 kV, ~385 km subsea and onshore cable system enabling a ±600 kV/2,200 MW bi-pole link between Hunterston and Connah’s Quay.
