400‑kV extra‑high‑voltage, dual‑circuit submarine interconnection between Rio and Antirrio forming part of the Western Corridor / Peloponnese interconnection (approx. 60 km total route with 18 km subsea and 42 km land, 6 parallel cables).
Hellenic Cables designed, manufactured and installed the 400‑kV extra‑high‑voltage dual‑circuit submarine power link between Rio and Antirrio, known as the Western Corridor and forming part of Greece’s Peloponnese interconnection. Working for Greek transmission system operator IPTO, the company delivered a turnkey cable system that underpins the Western Corridor line connecting Megalopoli with Patras and west‑central Greece. The project included engineering of the HVAC submarine cable system, production of the high‑voltage cables, and offshore installation of the dual‑circuit interconnection, which runs for just over 11 miles across the Gulf of Corinth, together with associated land cable sections. The link entered operation in June and is intended to upgrade Greece’s transmission infrastructure, strengthen the 400‑kV network toward the Peloponnese, and enhance national energy security by enabling higher‑capacity power flows between southern and mainland Greece.
