On 11 September 2020, Croatian utility HEP announced that over the next three years it would invest nearly 30 million HRK in electricity infrastructure projects on Vis island, prominently including the laying of new underwater cables between Hvar–Pakleni Islands and Vis and between Vis and Biševo, as well as new 20 kV cable lines between Ravno Stupišće and Smokova. This programme allocation signals dedicated capital for modernising the medium‑voltage submarine interconnector Vis–Biševo as part of broader efforts to improve the island’s energy security and self‑sufficiency.
