DELAYED +6yr (May 2026): Danish energy island delayed from 2033 to 2036 at the earliest per DK Climate and Energy Minister Lars Aegaard in an interview with Borsen (24 Aug 2024, reported by Belga News Agency). TritonLink's BE-DK leg is anchored to the Danish energy island being operational. Earlier re-baseline (14 Mar 2023, Brussels Times) had already moved the target from 2030 to 2033 after the new DK government took office. Belgian-side execution risk further elevated by Elia's June 2025 decision to drop the original Princess Elisabeth Island HVDC contract and develop an 'alternative concept'. Resetting projection to 2036-12-31 year-precision with reduced confidence; further slip is likely until Belgium's alternative HVDC concept is decided and the Danish island tender re-opens. --- The Triton Link offshore hybrid HVDC interconnector between Denmark and Belgium, developed jointly by Energinet and Elia as an EU PCI electricity project, is expected to enter full commercial operation in 2033. The project will provide a new cross-border transmission link in the North Sea, combining interconnection between the two countries with connection of offshore renewable generation via the Danish energy island concept.
