On 7 April 2017, Trianel and its 20 municipal utility partners confirmed that Trianel Windpark Borkum II would be realised outside the newly introduced offshore wind auctions under the Windenergie-auf-See-Gesetz, instead benefiting from the fixed remuneration regime of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act 2014 (EEG 2014). This regulatory framework provides the municipal investors with a fixed feed-in remuneration and is described as giving the project an excellent risk–return profile compared with projects developed under the new auction system.
