On 2 October 2008, Prysmian Cables & Systems, in consortium with Siemens Transmission & Distribution Ltd, was awarded the electrical package for the 300 MW Thanet offshore wind project, including the design, manufacture and installation of about 55 km of 132 kV HVAC submarine export cables between the offshore substation and the British mainland grid; these export cables later formed the subsea transmission links owned and operated under the Thanet OFTO licence.
