Design, manufacture and installation of high-voltage 132 kV HVAC export cables forming the submarine power links between the Thanet offshore substation and the mainland British power grid, later constituting the Thanet OFTO export cable system.
Prysmian Cables & Systems was awarded, in consortium with Siemens Transmission & Distribution Ltd, the electrical package for the 300 MW Thanet offshore wind park. Prysmian’s scope covered the design, manufacture and installation of approximately 75 km of 33 kV submarine array cables and about 55 km of 132 kV submarine export cables transmitting power from the offshore substation to the British mainland grid. These 132 kV export cables form the subsea transmission links later owned and operated under the Thanet OFTO licence. The work included detailed cable engineering, production at Prysmian’s Arco Felice submarine cable factory, load-out and offshore installation, delivering a complete HVAC export cable system for the project’s grid connection.
