EDF Energy (Northern Offshore Wind) Ltd (NOWL), a subsidiary of EDF Group, submitted the Section 36 application under the Electricity Act 1989, together with the associated Section 34 Coast Protection Act 1949, Section 5 Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 (FEPA), PD Teesport Works Licence, and Section 57 Town and Country Planning Act 1990 consent applications, to the Department of Trade and Industry's Offshore Renewables Consents Unit (ORCU) in 2005 for the 30-turbine, up to 100 MW Teesside (Redcar) Offshore Wind Farm located approximately 1.5 km offshore from Coatham Sands, Redcar, between the mouth of the River Tees and the town of Redcar. The supporting Environmental Statement was prepared by Entec on behalf of NOWL. Public consultations were held in Redcar and Hartlepool in July-August 2003 (over 190 attendees across exhibitions and meetings), with a formal scoping opinion sought from the DTI. The Marine Data Exchange catalogues the EDF Energy Teesside Environmental Statement with collection date January 2005. The site was originally allocated under Round 1 of UK offshore wind licensing. Planning consent was received in November 2007, with construction commencing in February 2011 and commercial operation achieved in July 2013. A pre-existing eia_submitted event dated 2004-03-23 reflects the earlier EIA scoping submission rather than the formal Section 36 application; month-precision submission date for the Section 36 application could not be definitively established from publicly available sources.
