O&M repair works by ABB on damaged SwePol Link metallic return cables along the subsea HVDC interconnector route between Sweden and Poland.
In autumn 2001 ABB carried out subsea repair works on the SwePol Link’s metallic return cables after they were damaged at two locations by shipping activity, including an anchor snag and probable fishing gear interaction. ABB located the faults, mobilised repair vessels, and restored the connection by splicing in new sections of return cable, completing fault location, repair, and vessel mobilisation/demobilisation within roughly three and a half weeks while minimising HVDC link downtime.
