On 12 February 2026, Polish transmission system operator PSE reported that the SwePol Link cable connection between Poland and Sweden was temporarily offline due to a fault, although the wider power system remained stable and there were no indications of intentional damage.
After the SwePol Link cable fault reported in February 2026, preparatory work began to repair the damaged component of the interconnector, initiating a repair campaign to return the link to normal service.

On 8 July 2025, the Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia issued an order establishing a 250‑metre‑wide security zone along both sides of the SwePol Link submarine cable between Sweden and Poland, prohibiting trawling, fishing, water sports, diving, anchoring and any underwater work not commissioned by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, with the restrictions coming into force on 24 July to better protect this 600 MW HVDC interconnector.
In October 2023, SwePol Link carried out an annual maintenance campaign lasting 13 days as part of 17 planned maintenance outages, including corrective works such as AC busbar and control centre maintenance.
Over 2023, SwePol Link experienced three disturbance outages in addition to numerous planned maintenance outages, reflecting unplanned events that interrupted normal HVDC interconnector operation.
In 2022, SwePol Link’s annual maintenance period spanned 29 days across September and October, forming part of 17 maintenance outages in total and contributing to a reduced available technical capacity of about 87.3%.
In 2022, SwePol Link recorded six disturbance outages alongside its maintenance outages, representing unplanned events that temporarily reduced or interrupted interconnector operation.
In September 2021, SwePol Link underwent its annual maintenance shutdown lasting six days, complemented by ten other planned maintenance outages over the course of the year.
During 2021, SwePol Link experienced five minor disturbance outages, one of which exceeded eight hours, leading to a cumulative 49 hours of downtime due to disturbance-related outages.
In September 2020, SwePol Link’s annual maintenance shutdown lasted six days, supplemented by three other planned maintenance outages and one additional planned outage during the year.
