Miljööverdomstolen (MÖD) upheld the Växjö District Court environmental court’s permit under the Swedish Water Act (1983:291), confirming consent for the SwePol Link HVDC interconnector between Sweden and Poland to lay and permanently maintain a subsea power cable with metallic return conductor from the shore at Stärnö in Karlshamn municipality to the territorial waters boundary. In its decision, the court considered not only the project’s company-level economic benefits and impacts on water conditions and fisheries, but also its influence on emissions from power production in both countries and on electricity security in southern Sweden, thereby finalising the planning consent for this part of the project.
