The SwePol Link HVDC transmission system between Sweden and Poland, comprising onshore converter stations at Stärnö near Karlshamn and near Słupsk connected by a 600 MW, 450 kV submarine cable, was commissioned in August 2000, becoming one of six similar Baltic Sea cable links that form part of the emerging Baltic Ring interconnection. Commissioning marked the completion of construction and readiness of the converter stations and control systems for operational service on the cross‑border link.
