In autumn 2001, SwePol Link’s two metallic return cables were damaged at two different locations by shipping traffic, including an anchor snag and likely fishing gear, prompting a repair campaign. ABB located the faults, spliced in new cable sections over about three and a half weeks using ROV and diver inspections, while the HVDC link was only taken offline for short periods because it could operate on a single return cable during most of the works.
