During construction in 2009, offshore site preparation for the Sprogø offshore wind farm involved dredging the seabed to remove the upper sediment layer, followed by rinsing and placement of a carefully levelled gravel bed to support the concrete gravity foundations. These preparatory works, carried out north of Sprogø within a Natura 2000 conservation area, were executed using a dredger, diver-assisted underwater operations, and marine construction support including the semi-submersible barge Giant 4 used to transport and position the heavy gravity-base elements.
