Sprogø

Sprogø Offshore Wind Farm is a small, operational Danish project sited on Sprogø island in the Great Belt between Funen and Zealand. Commissioned in 2009, the park comprises seven 3 MW turbines (total nominal capacity 21 MW) installed in shallow water (reported depths ~6–16 m). The site is highly visible from the adjacent Great Belt Bridge and was built as part of local infrastructure development around the COP15 period. Construction used large concrete gravity foundations fabricated onshore and transported to site (contractors deployed heavy transport and a semi‑submersible barge for installation), reflecting an early European application of gravity‑based foundations for offshore wind. The project was originally developed and held by Sund & Bælt (the Great Belt fixed‑link operator) and remained linked commercially to the bridge operator (Sund & Bælt continued to procure green electricity). In March 2018 the farm was acquired by European Energy, which now lists Sprogø in its operating portfolio. Operation has been noted for high availability over its lifetime. Sprogø’s modest size, shallow site and use of gravity foundations make it a useful reference case for early concrete‑based offshore wind deployment and operations in sheltered, nearshore Danish waters.
