On 12 June 2020, the Norwegian government opened the Sørlige Nordsjø II area, located in the southern North Sea near the Danish border, for offshore renewable energy production with a total capacity of 3,000 MW. This area designation underpins development in two 1,500 MW phases, including the future Sørlige Nordsjø II Phase 2 project within the overall SN II zone.
