Kier Infrastructure was selected by GE Grid Solutions to deliver the civil engineering and building construction works for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm onshore converter station (OCS) at the Wilton Complex near Lazenby, Teesside. Kier's scope covered the valve halls, control building and ancillary buildings on the 34,000 m² site, including installation of heating, cooling, building management systems and all associated building services. Works started in early 2022 with a target completion of mid-2025, supporting the broader programme to commission the ±320 kV / 1,320 MW HVDC transmission system that connects the 1.4 GW Sofia array on Dogger Bank to the National Grid at Lackenby.
