ABB was awarded an EPC-style contract by IPTO S.A. for the new 150/20 kV GIS onshore substation on Skiathos, forming the grid connection point for the Mantoudi–Skiathos 150 kV interconnection. The scope covered design and engineering of the closed-type GIS substation, supply of primary and secondary equipment, and full installation and commissioning works. The contract, valued at EUR 9.5 million, followed an international tender in which ABB competed with MYTILINEOS-GE, TOMI-HYOSUNG and NARI-ELECTROMEC. A tripartite agreement between IPTO, HEDNO and ABB was signed in May 2020 to implement the substation, which is critical to stabilising electricity supply for Skiathos and the wider Northern Sporades by enabling connection to the mainland 150 kV transmission system. Construction began in early 2020 with an implementation period of about 20 months, aligned with completion of the submarine and underground cable link.
