In 1997, as part of the Samsø Renewable Energy Island master plan, planners assessed the island’s future energy needs and determined that offshore wind should offset the transport sector’s energy consumption, calculating that this would require approximately 15 offshore turbines of 1.5 MW each. This resource and capacity assessment provided the quantitative basis for developing the Samsø (Paludan Flak) offshore wind project concept south of the island.
