General Electric partnered with ANSALDO A.S.I. to supply the upgraded HVDC converter stations for SACOI 2 at Codrongianos and Suvereto. In 1992 the consortium replaced the original mercury‑arc valves with air‑cooled thyristor valves and related HVDC equipment, enabling the multi‑terminal link to operate as a 300 MW bipolar LCC scheme at ±200 kV. General Electric provided design and manufacture of the thyristor valve groups and other key converter components, and took part in installation and commissioning activities to bring the two new 12‑pulse converter units into service.
