In June 2006, the second 400 kV AC submarine circuit of the Spain–Morocco REMO interconnection between Tarifa (Spain) and Fardioua (Morocco) was commissioned by Red Eléctrica de España (REE) and the Moroccan utility Office National de l’Electricité (ONE), doubling the technical exchange capacity from 700 MW to 1,400 MW and enabling a commercial exchange capacity of 800 MW. This reinforcement, which upgrades the Moroccan network from 225 kV to 400 kV, enhances frequency and voltage stability and improves the technical and economic operation of generation and transmission systems in both countries.
