Installation of the submarine cables for the REMO Spain–Morocco second interconnection began in November 2005, when Red Eléctrica de España and its partners started laying the new submarine cables and installing the associated protection systems across the Strait of Gibraltar between Tarifa and Fardioua. This work followed completion of cable manufacturing and continued through to February 2006 as part of the project to reinforce and double the interconnection capacity.
