In early 2018, after Phase A of the Cyclades Interconnection became fully operational, Syros and Paros were linked to the mainland high‑voltage system, and through Paros the existing submarine connection began supplying electricity from the Mainland Power Transmission System to Ios and neighbouring islands. This marks the first transmission of mainland grid power over the Paros–Ios cable as part of the interconnected Cyclades system.
