On 14 March 2018, the Dutch Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations notified the Lower House of Parliament that the Egmond aan Zee Offshore Wind Farm (OWEZ) would be opened to through shipping from 1 May 2018 as part of the National Water Plan 2016–2021. The opening, formalised via a policy guideline and an Administrative Ruling of General Application (B.A.S.) for Offshore Windpark Egmond aan Zee, set conditions and safety rules under which vessels up to 24 metres may pass through the wind farm.
