In May 2014, the Northwind offshore high-voltage substation (OHVS) became operational, stepping up turbine output from 33 kV to 220 kV and exporting power via a ~42 km 220 kV AC submarine export cable from Lodewijkbank to Zeebrugge and associated onshore cables into Elia’s grid. This marked the start of commercial operation of the Northwind–Nobelwind shared 220 kV export connection for Northwind’s 216 MW output, using the Cableco-owned export link that was designed to later carry Nobelwind’s production as well.
