The Danish North Sea Energy Island, including the Energinet-built transmission grid that will export power from the artificial island to Denmark and other countries, was originally planned to be operational no later than 2033, with at least 3 GW of offshore wind connected via the hub. Subsequent analysis has found this 2033 operational target unfeasible, and as of March 2024 the North Sea Energy Island project is stagnant and under reconsideration, with development suspended for at least three years beyond the original schedule.
