High Voltage Alternate Current (HVAC) cable connection from France (Surville) to Jersey (Archirondel) comprising of 28 km of 90 kV 3-core cable in a single length
Prysmian Group was awarded a turnkey contract by Jersey Electricity plc for the Normandie 1 (N1) interconnector between Surville in France and Archirondel in Jersey. Prysmian was responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of a 90 kV 3‑core HVAC cable system, including both the submarine and land cable sections. The scope covered approximately 28 km of high‑voltage power cable in a single length, related accessories, specialist jointing works and overall network integration. The €28 million consortium contract, shared with VBMS, replaced the obsolete EDF1 link and created a new 100 MW subsea interconnection whose capacity is shared by Jersey and Guernsey under the Channel Islands Electricity Grid partnership. Submarine cables were produced at Prysmian’s Arco Felice plant in Italy, with project completion scheduled for late 2016.
