On 9 August 2016, installation of the Normandie 1 (N1) 27 km subsea power cable from Surville, Normandy to Archirondel, Jersey began in earnest, as the cable-laying vessel Stemat Spirit approached the French beach, set up on anchors, and commenced the operation to pull the cable ashore before continuing the offshore laying towards Jersey.

Planning permissions for the new subsea interconnector cable Normandie 1 (N1), an additional link to France replacing the EDF1 cable, were granted in May 2015 as part of ongoing investment in the Channel Islands subsea cable network.
