NordBalt 700 MW, ±300 kV HVDC Light interconnector with two parallel cables over ~400 km subsea and ~53 km onshore between Nybro (Sweden) and Klaipėda (Lithuania).
Litgrid and Svenska kraftnät awarded ABB a turnkey contract for the NordBalt HVDC interconnector covering design, engineering, manufacture and installation of the HVDC cable system during the construction phase. The scope included two 300 kV HVDC Light subsea cables between Sweden and Lithuania, each about 400 km long, and the associated land cable routes on both shores (around 40 km in Sweden and 13 km in Lithuania), resulting in roughly 800 km of submarine and 106 km of underground DC cable manufactured and supplied. ABB’s contract, valued at about €270 million, encompassed full installation services for the submarine and onshore cables, forming the 700 MW, ±300 kV symmetrical monopole link between the Nybro and Klaipėda converter stations.
