On 16 August 2013, Svenska kraftnät awarded the last major contract for the NordBalt interconnector’s Swedish onshore works, signing an agreement with NCC Construction Sverige AB. Under this contract, NCC is responsible for excavating the trench and installing the direct-current land cable along the approximately 40 km onshore section between Sandvik on the coast and the converter station at Nybro. The contract value is stated as close to SEK 49 million. This landworks package covers the physical laying of the NordBalt link on the Swedish land route, forming a key civil-construction element of the overall HVDC connection between Sweden and Lithuania.
