On 18 March 2016, during trial operations of the NordBalt HVDC interconnector, an error occurred on the link that triggered an outage and caused electricity transmission to be temporarily stopped. Svenska kraftnät reported that the fault was located in a joint on the land cable section on the Swedish side of the connection. The problem in this joint was identified as the cause of the interruption to power transfer between Sweden and Lithuania on the NordBalt interconnector.
