Major Maintenance

On 12 October 2018, Svenska kraftnät reported that, in cooperation with cable supplier NKT, it had completed a major maintenance campaign on the NordBalt interconnector’s Swedish land cable section. The work involved replacing the joints (“skarvarna”) along the land-based cable route to address reliability issues and prevent further interruptions on the link. Following completion of the joint replacement works, the NordBalt connection was returned to operation and the maintenance campaign was formally concluded. The original schedule had envisaged carrying out the joint replacements between 13 August and 26 October 2018, but execution progressed faster than planned, allowing the work to be finished roughly two weeks ahead of the initial timetable.
