The European Union approved EUR 175 million of financial support for the NordBalt project, the 700 MW ±300 kV HVDC interconnector between Sweden and Lithuania. According to Litgrid, the bulk of this funding – EUR 131 million – is allocated to construction of the NordBalt link itself, with the remainder earmarked for reinforcement of the Latvian electricity transmission system, which is part of the wider NordBalt project scope.
