By 2021, Elia had implemented a mixed-reality remote assistance system on the operational Modular Offshore Grid (MOG), enabling maintenance operators to use Microsoft HoloLens 2 smart glasses during inspection and maintenance activities. Using the HoloLens 2, operators share their real-time view of the MOG with remote experts and receive audio-visual guidance overlaid with digital information, reducing the need to physically bring experts offshore and supporting efficient issue resolution on the MOG platform 40 km off the Belgian coast.
