Elia’s Modular Offshore Grid (MOG), comprising the Offshore Switch Yard (OSY) about 40 km off Zeebrugge and 220 kV export cables linking it to the Stevin onshore substation and the Rentel offshore substation, was completed in record time and prepared for operation, with Elia stating that the project was ready ahead of schedule following cable-laying by DEME and platform installation in 2018–2019. In contemporaneous statements in August 2019, Elia indicated that the MOG would become operational in September 2019, providing a shared offshore grid connection that groups power from the Rentel, Northwester 2 and SeaMade (Mermaid and Seastar) wind farms for transmission to the Belgian onshore grid, and later brochures confirmed that the MOG had been successfully completed.
